I am an experienced teacher of over 30 years. I have taught in a range of schools including mainstream with specialist provisions and independent special schools. I have enjoyed success in working alongside students with learning barriers whether this be due to ASD, ADHD, PDA or anxiety.

I form relationships quickly and celebrate their successes no matter how small a step it is for them. I have a flexible approach to teaching that is student-centered. I use a range of teaching techniques to deliver my lessons and frequently review and check understanding and progress. I always make sure my lessons are engaging and fun as this is when children learn best.

Recently, I enjoyed working part time in a local Academy. Here I ran English intervention groups with Year 11 students to help them to improve their GCSE exam grades. This was very rewarding and kept me up to date with relevant content and exam knowledge as well as giving me the advantage of knowing what my younger students need to aim for. I am now kept busy with my private 1-1 students!  I teach English to students aged 12–18, supporting them through KS3 and GCSE with a wide range of texts and the core skills they need for confident reading, writing and analysis.

I am a mum of two girls, one of whom has a diagnosis of ASD, ADHD, OCD and generalised anxiety disorder - this keeps me on my toes and has shaped me as a teacher.

"Claire is committed to supporting children to unlock their potential and achieve their very best. Her warm and approachable manner enables children to learn in a positive and supportive environment. Children make rapid progress because Claire spends time exploring their learning gaps and then designs a learning plan to meet their individual needs" (Head Teacher 2024)
